Dear all,<br>
<br>
first of all thanks to Simon and Rafael for their job.<br>
<br>
Now, some comments.<br>
<br>
Concerning the pdf viewers in <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://dev.ipol.im/%7Esimonl/php/pdfInHtml/" target="_blank">http://dev.ipol.im/~simonl/php/pdfInHtml/</a>,<br>
I tested them with different pdf's and in some cases I got an error.<br>
My question is: why bother to create a pdf viewer when there are so
many of<br>
them (e.g. the Adobe Acrobat) freely available?<br>
<br>
With respect to the pdf file in <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://dev.ipol.im/%7Esimonl/files/IpolTeX/IpolTeX.tar.gz"
target="_blank">http://dev.ipol.im/~simonl/files/IpolTeX/IpolTeX.tar.</a>,<br>
what Rafael and Simon propose is similar (but better) than my
proposal<br>
(in thread [IPOL discuss] Typographic problem (19/08/2011)).<br>
<br>
However, even if it is handy to have a printable pdf version of the
paper I still prefer<br>
the current wiki-like style. Some reasons:<br>
- it integrates description+demo+archive,<br>
- it permits to hide/show some material, <br>
- it permits to display several images in the same frame (very
useful<br>
for comparisons)<br>
<br>
The only problems I see in the current format are:<br>
1) from the author point of view:<br>
- extra work to write the wiki<br>
2) from the reader point of view:<br>
- visualization of formulas and some mathematical symbols<br>
- difficulty to get a nice printable version<br>
<br>
I don't think the extra work for the author is really a problem. <br>
It doesn't take that much time to write the description of a paper <br>
(maybe with the exception of formulas and tables,<br>
and here we could use Mathjax, as once proposed by Nicolas).<br>
<br>
From the reader's point of view, wouldn't it be possible to get a
printable (pdf) version from the <br>
current wiki page (maybe including some directives that specify what
to print and what not<br>
from the html file) ?<br>

<div>Dear all,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>After a long period trying alternative solutions to embed
Ipol articles on-line, we (Rafael and me) have finally decided
that our work was ready to be shared and submitted to your tests
and feedback. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>At the beginning, we were supposed to try to:</div>
<div>1) convert Latex files into html</div>
<div>2) define a tex class and a template of tex file to guide any
future Ipol author to start a new article and to ensure that the
tex to html conversion is handled correctly</div>
<div>3) embed pdf files in html </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>So far, we have rather explored the 2) and 3). And you can
find the outcome:</div>
<div>here <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://dev.ipol.im/%7Esimonl/files/IpolTeX/IpolTeX.tar.gz"
target="_blank">http://dev.ipol.im/~simonl/files/IpolTeX/IpolTeX.tar.gz</a></div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>and there <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://dev.ipol.im/%7Esimonl/php/pdfInHtml/"
target="_blank">http://dev.ipol.im/~simonl/php/pdfInHtml/</a></div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>In this last page, the idea is to upload your own pdf files,
and try 3 different ways to view the pdf online: your own
browser plugin, a technology based on flash (FlexPaper), and
another based on javascript (pdf.js). You can try them by
checking the associated radio button. You can also click the
"get link" button to get an url that you can then attach to your
feedback if you will. If you think that this kind of embedding
is stable and practical enough for Ipol then we can give the
green light to the authors currently in the process of
writing/submitting. Otherwise we should still remain open to
alternatives...</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Concerning the Ipol Latex class, following JM advice, we've
kept it as simple as possible. And there again your feedback is
more than welcome.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>cheers,</div>
