Abstract
This article presents an implementation of the local image enhancement
technique proposed in [J.L. Lisani, Adaptive local image enhancement
based on logarithmic mappings, IEEE International Conference on Image
Processing (ICIP), 2018]. The technique is based on a logarithmic
mapping function that is adapted to the luminance characteristics of the
neighborhood of each pixel. The method permits to simultaneously
increase the luminance in dark regions and decrease it in bright
regions. Variants of the originally published method are discussed in
terms of contrast enhancement and creation of halo artifacts.
