Hi,
I did some more tests, added to the table hereafter. The most
interesting ones are Internet Explorer 8 and 9 on Windows Vista. Mac
OSX data is still missing, and maybe iOS (anyone with an iPad?). I
also included some exotic browser using their own rendering engine
(amaya, dillo, links, netsurf) to see what happens out of the main
quatuor[1].
So far, I think this confirms "object svg + fallback png" is the best
solution, with an additional download link to the svg file. And the
latest releases of the 3 major browsers are unanimous:
img img object object embed inline
png svg svg svg+png svg svg
firefox6.0 OK OK OK OK OK OK
chrome13 OK OK OK OK OK OK
ie9 OK OK OK OK OK OK
[1] These 4 rendering engine account for almost all the web experience:
Trident for IE, Gecko for Mozilla Firefox, Webkit for Chrome, Safari,
Konqueror and Presto for Opera.
