Hi all,
Some useful materials can not easily be embedded in a PDF file,
because of their nature or size: video, large tables, etc.
PDF documents can include movies (and 3D and flash and javascript too...),
but this is usually not supported out of the Adobe Reader software, so
it is currently not an option for IPOL articles.
These data are useful for the articles, so they will be handled as
supplementary materials:
* uploaded to OJS
* reviewed (unless authors and editors agree not to review)
* published with the manuscript PDF and software
For video and animations, one possibility is to include a few key
frames in the PDF, and have the complete dequence as a supplementary
material.
For the moment, there is no restriction on the file formats, but they
may be converted during the edition. We will see in the future if such
a list is needed.
The default license for these materials is CC-BY, same as the
datasets: no restriction on the usage, but the authors must be
acknowledged.
Two articles already use them:
* http://www.ipol.im/pub/algo/admm_non_blind_psf_estimation/
-> calibration pattern and numeric tables
* http://www.ipol.im/pub/algo/glmt_mire/
-> another software used in the demo
A chapter has been added to the IPOL Author Manual:
https://tools.ipol.im/wiki/ref/author_manual/#supplementary-materials
Supplementary Materials
Some materials are not adapted to the PDF document format: video,
image sequences, or large tables. They should be submitted with
the manuscript, as supplementary materials, and mentioned in the
manuscript. Supplementary materials will be reviewed and published
with the manuscript and software.
For the moment, authors are free to use the file formats they wish
for their supplementary materials. Standard and well known formats
are preferred, and these files may be converted during the edition
process. The total size of these supplementary materials should
not exceed 20MB per submission.
